English III Honors

Course Objectives: Junior Honors English course involves the development of comprehension, interpretation, writing, vocabulary and speaking skills. It surveys important works in American literature and selected inter-related works from world literature. Frequent writing assignments and a term paper are integral parts of the curriculum. The literature and supplemental texts are the sources of vocabulary enrichment, and speaking skills are developed through formal speeches and informal discussions. Overall, students will develop a growing understanding of how texts are influenced by their authors, the times in which they were written and various textual criticisms.

Grading Policy:

Grades are weighted in the following manner:

  • Vocabulary, literature quizzes—35%
  • Homework, participation, class work—20%
  • Tests—45%
  • Essay assessment will vary according to length, breadth and extent of assignment. Essays will range in weight from tests to quizzes (45-30%).

December 3: Read in class through page 29; for homework read through pages 29-36 (just after Hale’s narrative; Sadlier Unit 7

December 4: Sadlier Unit 7 quiz today; read pages 36-end of Act I; be prepared for reading check on Monday; Sadlier Unit 8 homework

December 7: Reading check Act I; continue reading in class; Sadlier Unit 8

December 8: Continue reading in class through the end of Act II (whatever we do not get to in class is homework); Sadlier Unit 8

December 9: Reading check on Act II; watch film; Sadlier Unit 8

December 10: Continue watching film; Sadlier Unit 8 quiz for tomorrow

December 11: Sadlier Unit 8 quiz; read Act III pages 83-100; answer corresponding questions on Questions to Consider
