“Gavin is definitely going to the Meet of Champions as a sophomore,” said Sellaro, who did the same and medaled as a 10th grader. “And next year he’ll contend to win it.”
Based on their performances at Tuesday’s Skyland Conference boys track and championship at Hillsborough High School, Sellaro and Richards may both have lots of reasons to look forward to the rest of the postseason – including the Meet of Champions –this season.
The pair provided the only gold medals for lehighvalleylive.com regional athletes at the always hyper-competitive conference meet, one of the toughest such events in the entire Northeast. Richards won his first Skyland title by dominating the final lap of the 800-meter run to win decisively in 1:56.28, almost two seconds faster than runner-up Justin Cornetta of Hunterdon Central.
The Penn-bound Sellaro captured the two longer distance races. He won the 1,600 in a sparkling 4 minutes, 20.54 seconds and ground out a win in the 3,200 in 9:44.77.
