Dear Student, 

Hello!  As band director at North Hunterdon High School it is my pleasure to invite you to become a new member of the “Golden Lions” Marching Band.  Everyone wants to be a part of a successful organization.  The NHHS band gives you that opportunity and a lot more.  This letter will serve as an introduction to what being a band member is all about.  It is strongly recommended that you share this information with your parents. 

The music department at NHHS enjoys a reputation as one of the finest in the state of New Jersey.  Consistently recognized for superior performances, the instrumental and choral ensembles are made up of students from all four grades in the school.  An integral part of the music department, the “Golden Lions” Marching Band has carved a tradition of excellence in both field shows and parade performance.  The band has represented Hunterdon County in several state marching band festivals as well as competing in regional festivals and many local parades.  One of the highlights of our season is the annual march up Fifth Avenue for the New York City Columbus Day Parade.  The band travels regularly and has performed in England, Germany, and throughout the United States and Canada.  The opportunity to travel and perform provides our students the opportunity to make many lasting memories. 

Your instrumental abilities will be a welcome asset to the “Golden Lions” band.  Membership in the concert band is strongly recommended but is not a requirement for membership in the “Golden Lions” Marching Band.  What is required is the strong desire and commitment to improve your musical skills and to contribute your musical gift for the good of the band. In return, being in the band allows you to meet and make many new friends.  Every member of the band is an important and vital member of a very close circle, almost a family. 

Marching band rehearsals begin in August and continue until the beginning of December.  The marching band performs at all the football games and several festival and parade events in the Fall and Spring.  The concert band meets during the school day and is worth 5.00 credits towards graduation.  Concert band rehearsals in September and October are devoted to the marching band music but switch to regular concert band repertoire in November.  The concert band performs at several school and community concerts each year. 

It’s still not too late to be a part of the 2009 “Golden Lions” Marching Band.  The band will have a special pre-summer rehearsal on Tuesday, June 2nd from 3:15 to 5:15 at the high school.  If you would like to attend this rehearsal, detach, and mail the bottom of this page.  If you have a question about the band, feel free to call me at school, 713-4160 or email at vangeline@nhvweb.net. Rehearsals will be held every Tuesday and Thursday during marching season only from 3:10 until 5:15 and before all games and competitions.  The first after school rehearsal will be August 28. Call time and return time for all performances will be announced as soon as possible. A Saturday rehearsal will be held August 30 from 9:00 to 12:00. Uniforms will be distributed on Friday, August 29 from 3:10 to 5:30 and Saturday, August 30 from 12:00 to 2:00. YOUR ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE GROUP!!!
