Prey by Michael Crichton

Mr. Crichton's books are all somewhat confusing in the technology, but not at all a pain to read.  His books are all hard to put down.  In Prey, a group of nano-sized machines get loose and they are programmed to act as predators.  Anything that moves is prey.  As they become more and more sophisticated, they certainly are alive.

Eva by Peter Dickinson

Eva, a 13 year old girl, is horribly injured in a car wreck.  She is the first to undergo a certain operation, in which her brain is put into a chimpanzee's body.  Set in the future, it's interesting but not hard to put down.

Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez

I really enjoyed this book.  It has it's flaws, but overall it makes you think.  I would recommend this book more to girls, only because the book might make guys uncomfortable.  But anyone willing to give it a chance won't be sorry.

Echo   by Francesca Lia Block

You can't help enjoying this book.  I love this author.  This is actually one of her more normal books but the metaphors, like mermaids, vampires, and angels are amazing.  For anyone who has felt the magical ups and downs of love.

The Jungle
by Upton Sinclair

This book is for people who won't pass out.
This book explains about what happened at
the meat packing factories before the FDA.

Great Book!!!!  Takes talking about self-mutilation
to a new level.  If you are a recovering "Cutter", this is a must.

Prometheus bound
by Aeschylus

A play about the god, Prometheus and his story of stealing fire.  Deals a lot with rebellion, brains versus brawn and destiny.  It's a real thinker.

I really enjoyed it a lot!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
by  J. K. Rowling

Harry Potter, yes, you all know, but it is not the book you think it is.  An action filled book, that is the continuation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone  and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  A delightful read that will thrill readers of any age.  Plenty of fun and laughs.

Night
by Elie Wiesel

A dramatic book about Nazi concentration camps.  It has a lot of heart and is a best read on many lists.  This book shows all the pain and agony the Jews had to go through.  It is not for the faint of heart.  Expresses a lot in a few pages.

Prospero's Children by Jan Siegel

I very much enjoyed this book.  Though some of the sentences can be long and tedious, the author's boundless imagination and wonderfully descriptive techniques make you feel as if you are right there in that storm-tossed sea.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a good fantasy read.

The Handmaid's Tale

A very powerful futuristic story that leaves the mind reeling.  An over-controlling and corrupt government moves like clockwork.

The Body of Christopher Creed

  by Carol Plum-Ucci

This book is a new, fresh approach to the mystery genre.  It's about the adventures of a young man who is searching for the missing Christopher Creed.  Chris is a loner with an overly protective mother.  So get your read on.

I really enjoyed it a lot!

The Killer's Cousin
by Nancy Werlin

An average teenage thriller with a twist, this book will keep you hooked until the end.  But it does not succeed in it's attempts for a spark of love and the paranormal.

Tomorrow Wendy: A Love Story
by Shelley Stoehr

Though I'm not the one for an angsty, depressing, abnormal love story, this one is not that bad.  The story line is built up quite well, despite a rather abrupt cliff hanger at the end.

Hot Zone
by Richard Preston

Anyone with a tendency to scream at the thought of blood shouldn't come within a mile of this book about the Ebola virus.  For the tough-skinned "future doctor," this is brilliantly written, though some parts do linger.

Jessica

Really, really good.  I can easily understand though if someone is bored with it because it talks like a documentary you see on PBS or Discovery.  It's non-fiction.  Stephen King said, "One of the most horrifying things I've ever read." That is true but not in a horror story way.  I would suggest this book to anyone who has the ability to comprehend a lot of information and has a broad imagination.

Love and other 4-Letter Words by Carolyn Mackler
A heart-warming and humorous story of a 16 year old girl's attempt to acclimate to new surroundings and a new love interest.  Will definitely make you laugh and think.  It's great!

Being with Henry by Martha Brooks
Being with Henry opens the reader's eyes to the world of Laker, who struggles to grow up in a time of emotional confusion and the practical stage of a melodramatic teenager.  Though, the best part of the book for me was when Laker finally comprehends the fact that "When one door closes, another one opens up."  And that quote goes for everyone even if they haven't found that door yet.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants  by Ann Brashares
OH, MY  GOD!  You don't know how excellent this book is.  It is creative, touching and funny.  This book about four girls over the summer keeping in touch by letters and a magical pair of pants is a MUST READ!

Dancing with an Alien  by Mary Logue
An "out of this world" love story of an alien on a mission . . . to get a female.  Though it seems to skip something in the beginning, this book is superb It's cleverly split between the alien's point of view and the girl's point of view.

Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card
An incredible sci-fi story, a parallel of Ender's Game, told through the eyes of a child prodigy and his journey from the slums of Rotterdam to the space station Erros.  Truly amazing.

Feed by M. T. Anderson
Very interesting sci-fi novel, set in the future on many different planets.  The novel gets its' title from the computer chip called the "feed" implanted in everyone's' mind.  Shows a group of teens and their hardships.  The slang is a little hard to get into.

Stoner and Spaz
by Ron Koertge
Rebel meets loner--typical plot for a teenage novel.
However, Koertge manages to somehow make the two seem human, fallible, and afraid.  As the book progresses, you find yourself wanting the two to be together, but you know that it would  be disastrous.  Shockingly, the story has a bit of a twist ending, where boy meets girl, but it isn't what you'd have seen coming.  Not a happy ending all around, but the perfect ending for the story.  Stoner and Spaz is a great read for when you  just want to relax with a good, but easy, read.

The Client by John  Grisham
If you haven't read Grisham, start here.  An excellent book, starts with a suicide, has lots of FBI involvement, Mafia, and excellent character development.  They're all so real.  If you can read 566 pages and still enjoy it, and like a good read, read it.

by Tracy Chevalier
Much different from Girl with a Pearl Earring but nonetheless very entertaining.  The book puts a fascinating spin on a historical tale that both captivates and encourages the reader to never put the book down. Overall, a pretty good story.
