North Hunterdon High School students. At the fall ceremony for parents and
friends, students who have met the following criteria based on their previous

The Student Activities Council is responsible for developing, coordinating, scheduling and promoting a comprehensive student activities program in conjunction with the Council members. This council is responsibile for the coordination of Homecoming, Spirit Week, pep rallies, Prom and other miscellaneous duties to provide success for student activities.

The Biology I Competition Team allows first year biology students to measure their academic prowess against similar teams from other schools in New Jersey. Membership is open to all first-year students willing to commit 2 hours a week to practice sessions and monthly competitions.
Students in Advanced Placement Biology are selected to be participants for four statewide competitions in Biology II. The team meets weekly to review topics to be covered.
Level I Chemistry Team is open to all first-year chemistry students (except AP). Members meet with the Advisor and prep for contests to be held against other local high schools. The content of the exams closely follows the sequence of chemistry taught at North, and allows students to both improve their skills and test their knowledge in a competitive atmosphere.
Sign ups begin in early September. Participants must be presently taking Advanced Placement Chemistry or have completed Advanced Placement Chemistry.
Club Mission - The Chemistry II Competition Team provides students in Advanced Placement Chemistry with the opportunity to compete against top chemistry students from other New Jersey high schools. Students review and practice after school and take a written state wide exam which is given once a month starting in January and ending in April. Prior to January, students will prepare for the competitions by extensive review of the topics covered by each contest exam.

The Cross Training Club allows students/athletes to enjoy the benefits of a multi-modal program of training for improved athletic performance. Weights, running, calisthenics, eye-hand coordination, agility and flexibility activities are stressed.
This club furthers the interaction among students of French, plans activities and provides a welcome to new students in French classes. Annual activities include painting windows in the bridge with PEACE each winter and a December trip to NYC, Rockefeller Center/French Restaurant/dinner. The club is open to any student of French. Meetings are Thursdays at 2:30 in Room 220. On alternating Thursdays the French Honor Society members attend. Signups begin in September.
la Societe Honoraire de Francais is a national honor society sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French to recognize the achievements of outstanding French students. The North Hunterdon High School French Honor Society, Section De Tocqueville, was founded in 1972, becoming the first language honor society at NHHS.
Induction requirements: a student must have received a grade of “A” for two years in French, and a “B” average in all other subjects.
The club meets bi-weekly on Thursdays at 2:30 or as scheduled. Signups are held in French III. It serves as a leadership organization for the French Club. Projects inlcude serving as a steering committee for French Week, French Immersion Day and French Day for World Language Week. The motto: "La personne qui sait deux langues en vaut deux"; means "the person who knows two languages is worth two."
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is an international organization comprised of high school students. It bridges the gap between school and the business world and provides many leadership opportunities to its members. In addition to hearing from guest speakers, activities include fundraisers, community service projects, field trips, leadership conferences, and participation in competitive events.
Meeting times are confidential to protect the members of the club. Students can obtain meeting information from the advisors. Sign ups begin the third week of September and continue all year long. The purpose of Gay/Straight Alliance is to help gay teenagers be more comfortable with themselves and to help straight students understand how difficult it is to be a gay teenager in high school. This also helps teenagers develop friendships with people they can trust. This group is also be a vehicle for students who are having a difficult time dealing with their sexuality.

Meeting day: second Wednesday of every month 2:30 – 3:00 Meeting place: Room 218 unless otherwise noted . Sign-ups: at first meeting (usually early September—watch for notices and check announcements) and for two weeks following Enrollment requirements: interest in German culture and language Dues: $3.00/year Major Club functions: September: pretzel making; October: Oktoberfest field trip to Pennsylvania Dutch country November: fundraising – Gummi Bears, Toblerone bars & Moravian Stars; December: gingerbread house decoration contest
This inclusionary club unites all students in the name of service. The club is open to all NHHS students. Meetings are held every other Monday in Café A at 2:30. Signups are anytime. Club Oath: “I believe that together everyone achieves more. Therefore, I will sacrifice to give, I will help others to achieve, I will be a friend to all – and I will believe – Everyone is created equal.”
Our intramural program is designed to assist students to supplement their basic academic school day with additional activities, based upon student interests. Intramurals should provide opportunities for the non-varsity student athlete. The specific times and dates for each activity is posted on the INTRAMURALS bulletin board.

After school 4 to 5 days a week during the “season”. 14 teams, 140 students. This club runs from late November to early March. Anyone with an interest in playing can join.
The club does a variety of service projects serving the home, community and school. Anyone can participate. Meetings are held every Wednesday in the Faculty Dining Room. Signups are in early September.
A club for students with a special interest in ancient Rome and Greece. Open to all students, the club meets as needed during CIA time (2:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.). Signups are in September.

This club is committed to Community Service – i.e., clothes/food drive for Hurricane Katrina victims, DYFS Christmas Toy Drive, helping out at Camp Marcella, a camp for blind students. Anyone with an interest can join. Meetings are held before and after school at least twice a month.
The NHHS Golden Lions Marching Band performs at football games, pep rallies, participates in parades and in competitions. Any student that plays a band instrument can join but they MUST enroll in #590. The activity meets daily. Signups are done on the scheduling sheet.
A fitness club in which students work out and prepare for the annual Marine (YPF) Youth Physical Fitness competition. Anyone can join. Members meet every afternoon in the weight room after Thanksgiving.
Members of this club argue an actual case in the county courthouse in competition with other Hunterdon County High School teams. Anyone interested may participate. Signups are in early October and then the group meets four times a week to prepare for the competition.
Students participate in a mock United Nations session as representatives of a pre-assigned country. This club is open to Juniors and Seniors who have previously participated in Model Congress. Club meets as necessary during CIA activity period (2:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.). Signups are held in the Spring for the following year.

This is a national honor organization open to Juniors in the Spring semester and Seniors in the Fall semester. Applicants must meet the academic requirement of a 3.5 GPA. Potential candidates must complete the required application and submit it to the Advisor for review and selection by the Faculty Advisory Selection Committee. National Honor Society members meet twice a week, usually at 7:00 a.m. to plan their activities.
Student participants compete in six contests annually. Each competition exam has six mathematical problems. Some are easy, some are hard. All are fun and challenging. Competitions are vs. other high schools in Hunterdon County, the state of New Jersey and the nation. Give it a try. Often, your math teacher will give you extra credit for your efforts. Math League meets six Wednesdays in the cafeteria at 2:30. Exact dates are posted in your math class.
The NJ Youth and Government club models the NJ State Government. Students may assume the role of a legislator in the Senate or Assembly and then research and prepare proposed legislation for debate at the NJ State House during the annual meeting. Students may also serve as a lobbyist, member of the press corps, member of the cabinet or run for Governor. The goal of the club is to actively involve students in the workings of government and representative demoncracy.
Northern Lights is the NHHS literary magazine. The club produces a yearly anthology of our students’ creative writing and artwork. The senior editorial board evaluates and selects approximately the top third of student submissions. Then the members layout selected poems and stories with appropriate complementary illustrations. Students become proficient with desktop publishing software, learning to manipulate images and words into an attractive whole. The same selection, layout, and publishing processes and software used by Northern Lights are used by magazine publishers. The experience gained through the production of Northern Lights makes a strong addition to a college application or a resume. Plans are to make the magazine available on the North Hunterdon High School web page.
The North Hunterdon Theatre Organization offers students the opportunity to participate in a musical theatre production annually. Students are afforded the opportunity to audition to act, sing, dance or play an instrument. There are many opportunities to become involved in the backstage crews as well.
The Special Olympic training program prepares athletes for competition in local and state events in track and field. This unified program brings together athletes and high school coaches. Teamwork is our number one goal. All students can participate. A commitment by athletes and coaches to attend all practices is necessary. The teams meet every Monday from February through June.
This one-on-one mentorship program provides students with special needs friendship and support throughout the school year. This year-long mentorship program is designed to allow young people an opportunity to come together and discuss issues relevant to adolescent life. Mentors are selected upon recommendation of a student/staff committee. Mentees are any student with special needs. Signups are in the Spring for the following school year.
Members assist with publication of the school newspaper approximately 6-9 times a year. Anyone can be involved, although generally speaking, students of Newspaper Production comprise the staff. Paw Prints utilizes not only writers, but artists, photographers, and salespeople. Meetings are held after school once a week in Room 108. Signups are anytime, just see Ms Covino.
Juniors and Seniors are paired with incoming freshmen to act as mentors. All candidates for Peer Leadership must be nominated by a faculty member. Signups are at the end of Sophomore year.
The goal of Peer Mediation is to help students that have been in a conflict with other students. The Peer Mediators will help the conflicting students talk out the nature of their dispute. Then the Peer Mediators will help them develop and sign a contract to help prevent any future conflicts between the parties. Meetings are held monthly in the Guidance conference room or room 114. Students may submit their application for Peer Mediation in May. All students that apply must be in the tenth or eleventh grade students at the time of application since Peer Mediators are required to be eleventh or twelfth grade students. Students that are interested in becoming a Peer Mediator must participate in an interview conducted by the current Peer Mediators.
Students tutor other students in selected subjects. Anyone can participate. Group meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month. Signups are anytime in Room 106.
The Photo Club is for photography students of North Hunterdon both past and present. This club allows students to have a work environment that goes beyond the forty-minute period of the school day. The club offers extended access to the photography facilities, allowing for continual experimentation within the medium while receiving additional instruction.
Beginning in December, a competition team is assembled from those students who are currently enrolled in either Advanced Placement Physics or Honors Physics. The team meets on a weekly basis to prepare for competition with other New Jersey high schools. Four competitions are held, one per month from January to April. The participating students are ranked in the state both as a team and on an individual basis.
