“Pinning 4 a Purpose” is an idea that the Voorhees High School wrestling coaching staff developed as an opportunity for the Voorhees Wrestling Team to give back to a charitable organization in the local community. The Voorhees Wrestling Team will use their strength, determination, and hard work this year to benefit the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County. In looking for an organization to support, they chose the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County since it was a local organization, involves sports, and also helps other kids.
Pinning is the manner in which the boys win in the sport of wrestling. During the 2010-2011 season, pinning will not only benefit the Voorhees Wrestling Team, but also benefit an organization that needs resources and support. Every time a pin or “fall” is recorded, the pledge that each wrestler has solicited will be donated to the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County.
Voorhees wrestlers have been asking for pledges for each pin they achieve throughout the 2010-11 season. At the end of the season, the total pledge count will be donated, in its entirety, to Special Olympics of Hunterdon County.
To date, the entire team of over 40 boys, has compiled over 160 pins and there is still half a season to go! Two individuals from the Voorhees Wrestling family fan base has already sponsored each wrestler with an amount of .75 cents per pin. This is in addition to the individual sponsors the wrestlers are getting. The wrestlers are extremely motivated not only to win as a team, but to be a part of our community. At this point in time, the team has raised $1,700.
