Governor’s STEM Scholars

This program is for students attending school in New Jersey who are pursuing studies in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering or math), have a 3.5 G.P.A. or higher, are in grades from rising high school sophomores to graduate students (not older than 25), and who can show a demonstrated interest in STEM.  In addition to submitting the completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: Resume; Certified Transcript (may be mailed separately to 127 Main Street Chatham, NJ 07928); and Reference Letter (optional).  There is no cost.  If you are chosen as a scholar, you will be required to attend the four conferences of the Governor’s STEM Scholars and complete a research project.  For more information and to apply, please visit:http://www.govstemscholars.com/

RVCC Engineering Career Night

Engineering Career Night Event at Raritan Valley Community College, Monday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m(flyer – RVCC Engineering Career Night.pdf). The event, which is free of charge, is designed for prospective students interested in RVCC’s Engineering Science program as well as anyone considering a career in engineering. It will be held in the Conference Center at the College’s Branchburg campus. The event will include an introduction to the various Engineering tracks at RVCC; a discussion of the hands-on Engineering projects currently happening at the College; and information about the internship program available to RVCC Engineering majors. Following the introduction, professionals from various Engineering fields such as aerospace, civil, industrial, electrical, materials science, and mechanical will be available for informal conversations in roundtable sessions. RVCC NJ STARS and Honors College Information Sessions

The NJ STARS program makes it possible for New Jersey’s brightest high school graduates to receive full tuition scholarships to attend their local community college.  The scholarship covers tuition for up to five semesters.

 

To qualify for NJ STARS, you must:

  • Graduate in the top 15 percent of your high school graduating class
  • Show college-level readiness in both Math and English
  • Complete any remedial courses within one year of graduating from high school
  • Enroll full-time in an associate degree program at your home community college
  • Take a minimum of 12 college-level credits per semester
  • Maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average
  • Complete an associate degree within five semesters; not including summers
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any financial aid documentation requested to complete or verify application data within the NJ state deadlines

Da Vinci Science Center Summer Volunteer Opportunities

The Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown has exciting summer volunteer opportunities for high school students.  As our busiest time of the year approaches, we are in search of volunteers who would like to share their excitement about science and bring science to life for our visitors.

Summer Teen Volunteer Floor Educator (June 19th – August 25th)

  • For: Teens ages 15-17 (Must be 15 years of age by May 31st, 2017)
  • To Apply: Applications are accepted (now thru April 30th, 2017)
  • Commitment: Minimum of one 4 hour shift per week; Mandatory training June 4th from 3pm – 8pm.  Volunteers will learn engagement strategies, science content, and customer service skills
  • Required Skills: Customer service, enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, comfortable with public speaking
  • Other Requirements: Parental Consent Form, 2 Recommendation Letters, Clearances
  • Position Overview: Exhibit floor volunteers are enthusiastic, curious people who inspire our visitors to enjoy the wonders of science around them. They enhance the exhibit experience by engaging and delighting guests through their interactions.  These volunteers should be comfortable with individuals and groups.

 

Summer Camp Volunteers (June 19th to August 25th)

Rutgers School of Nursing Career Fair

Princeton University’s 10-Day Summer Journalism Program

We welcome 35-40 high school students (rising seniors) from low-income backgrounds every summer to Princeton’s campus for an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program’s goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students from low-income backgrounds to pursue careers in journalism.
