What is Technology Education?
Technology Education is one of the departments in Practical Arts that specializes in educating and exciting students in the areas of Communication & Information technologies, Manufacturing technologies, and Construction technologies. Technology Education is becoming an increasingly popular subject area in Middle Schools and High Schools across the country. At VHS, all Tech. Ed. courses are electives. In order to graduate from VHS, students must take 5 credits in the Practical Arts courses. Other departments in Practical Arts include Business and Family & Consumer Sciences. Half-year (semester) Tech. Ed. courses are worth 2.5 credits and full-year Tech. Ed. courses are worth 5 credits. All Tech. Ed. courses take place in Rm. 321, which is the CAD (Computer Aided Design) Lab. Although we do most of our classwork and activities on the computers, we also do some hands-on activities away from the computers such as modeling, rough sketching, and technical drawing.
Why Take Technology Education Courses?
In the real world, there is a constant need and desire for jobs that either fully utilize technology or use technology sparingly. Technology is progressing at an alarming rate. It's becoming smaller, faster, and more powerful. Students need to be aware of different technologies so that they can succesfully understand and use those technologies in the real world. Knowing how to use certain technologies allows one to be able to maintain those technologies and be able to fix any errors or problems that occur with those technologies.
