Public Speaking Class
Speech 231
Ms. Leyland
Grades ... VHS English Dept ... VHS
This eighteen week, 2.5 credit, public speaking course is a crucial part of preparation for continuing education. Most colleges now assess students by their ability to present information learned through oral presentation. Thus, this is a performance course. Students prepare a variety of speeches and present them during the semester. The primary purpose of the course is to give students an opportunity to make a variety of presentations in a public realm and improve both their presentational and listening skills with greater ease and comfort. Each round of speech is worth 100 points for the presentation (mini-rounds are worth 50 pts. each) and 10 points each for peer eval, parental preview and self assessment. Bonus points (5) are offered for parent comments on the parental preview.
MOST IMORTANT: Please be present on the day of your assigned presentation, as each round is strategically timed and planned. If you are very ill on the day of your presentation, please email me so I can make other arrangements; if I do not receive notification, points will be deducted from the presentation.
You can reach me by email at any time with questions or concerns at tleyland@nhvweb.net. Please do not leave a voice mail, as I rarely get to the phone.
