English I Grading Policy
Ms. Polt
2007/2008
Your marking period grade will be determined by the following percentages:
Tests: 30%
Essays: 30%
Vocabulary Quizzes: 15%
Homework: 10%
Classwork: 15%
Late Submission of Work: Under extenuating circumstances, I will accept late work. However, you must consult with me first. Students who are absent will have three consecutive days for every missed day to complete assignments. If the work is not completed within three days, the student will receive a 0.
There will be no extra credit assignments. If students are having difficulty with any work, please see me; I am here to help you. I am available during mods 15-16, and I will be in the English office. Also, we may meet Wednesday or Thursday after school until 3:10 if you schedule an appointment with me.
Cheating and Plagiarism: Cheating and plagiarism are not tolerated in the North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District. Any student who is proven guilty will receive a 0 and no chance to make up the assignment.
Supplies: Bring a pen, a notebook, and required reading to class everyday.
I prefer for assignments to be typed. If you do not have access to a computer, please see me. Work that is written legibly is better than no assignment at all. All written work must be proofread. I will be strict in correcting spelling and grammar. If you have grammatical questions, please see me before an assignment is due. I will be more than happy to provide a mini-lesson.
There will be a vocabulary quiz every week unless otherwise stated.
Works covered during the course of the year:
King Arthur and His Knights of the Roundtable

Great Expectations (
abridged version in Adventures in Reading)
Julius Caesar

Bless Me, Ultima

The Odyssey
(poetic translation in Adventures in Reading)
Short stories
I am looking forward to a wonderful year together!
