HWS2015North Hunterdon High School is looking forward to hosting the 2015 HWS Girls Basketball Championship on Friday, February 27th. Please note the following details:

  • Game times: 6:00 pm
  • Ticket Prices: NO PASSES ACCEPTED 
    • $5.00 Adults
    • $3.00 Students/ Senior Citizens
  • The scoreboard will reflect Phillipsburg as Home and Hunterdon Central as visitors.
  • Phillipsburg Girls will be the HOME Team and wear WHITE uniforms. Hunterdon Central Girls will be the VISITORS and wear DARK uniforms.
  • The Phillipsburg Pep Band was approved to perform at the game by the HWS Association.

North Hunterdon advanced 10 wrestlers to the Region 5 tournament, which begins Wednesday 2/25/15 at Hunterdon Central. North Hunterdon’s Jason Hawk and Voorhees’ Brian Baumann shared the District 17 assistant coach of the year award honors.

Eve and Sam take 2nd in the 3,200m at the NJSIAA Group 4 Track and Field Championships. Eve ran 11:01.34 and Sam ran 9:20.37. The girls team took 13th place overall and the Boys 12th.

Green&GoldWrestlerCongratulations to the North Wrestlers as they defeated Watchung Hills in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5 Sectional Final Round. They will face Hunterdon Central in the Group 5 Finals on 2/15/15. North Hunterdon won its 14th sectional title and will be competing for its fifth group title.

NH_Basketball-AWARENESS-BackNH-Basketball-AWARENESS-logoThe North Hunterdon Lady Lions Basketball team will generously pay tribute to the courageous women battling breast cancer in our country as they face the Hunterdon Central Lady Red Devils on February 24, 2015 – Freshmen 3:45pm, JV 5:15pm and Varsity 7:00pm. The game slogan will be “Join the fight – One shot at a time” and the girls will be wearing shirts that have a J.H.” on their right sleeve in honor of Jennifer Hoban, Kathleen and Meghan Hoban’s mother, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer 2 weeks ago.

We ask that fans wear “Pink” to support Breast Cancer Awareness or “Purple” to support Pancreatic Cancer Awareness. We will also be recognizing our Lady Lion Basketball and our Cheer Dance Pom seniors prior to the start of the game.

There will be contribution canisters when you walk into the game so please be kind and help fight these deadly diseases.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 232,670 American women will receive breast cancer and 22,890 a pancreatic diagnosis in 2014-2015. Breast cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. It is the leading cause of cancer death among women of all races and populations.

North-Wrestling-Coaches-2015Ryan Pomrinca, Matthew Mohan and Brian Smolinsky had pins and Derek Ciavarro had a major decision to lead the Lions wrestling team to a 52-15 over Westfield in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2 Group 5 Semifinals.

The Lions will host Watchung Hills in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2 Group 5 Finals this Friday Night (2/13) at 7pm in the Lions Den.

During the halftime of the 7pm Varsity Boys game against Warren Hills, Dave will be shooting his famous half court shots, we will sing to him and cupcakes will be passed out to all who are celebrating with us. We will also be celebrating Boys Basketball and Cheer Tech Senior Nights prior to the start of the game.

We will have a 50/50 and an additional money collection which will be donated to the Special Olympics in Dave’s honor. The Booster Club will donate $50 to Special Olympics for all the shots Dave makes at halftime – Great job Tera :)

NHHS-Cheer-UCA-2015bCONGRATULATIONS to the North Hunterdon varsity cheerleaders at the National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando,  Florida!
They ranked in the top 2 teams at preliminaries, moving directly to finals. They performed an incredible routine to rank in the Top 10 in the USA in the Large Varsity division. We are so proud!

HaleyStineHailey Stine scored a game-high 16 points, hitting two 3-pointers, and Carolyn Giordano added 13 to lead seventh-seeded North Hunterdon to a 56-51 upset victory over second-seeded High Point in the first round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament in High Point.

Kristina Harrel had 12 points for North Hunterdon, which outscored High Point, 28-20, in the second half.

BrandonVotekonFireThe Lions benefitted from balanced scoring. While Brandon Votek, the team’s leading scorer at 13.1 points per game, finished with 12 points, he had plenty of help. Fellow senior Doug Brightly chipped in with nine points and five other North Hunterdon players finished with six points, leaving the Rangers unable to key on just one or two players defensively.

A huge congratulations to Eve Glasergreen for being selected for the prestigious Gatorade Athlete of the Year for the state of New Jersey in Girl’s Cross-Country.  Only 1 girl is chosen from the entire state of New Jersey for this award.  A well deserved award for Eve and great recognition of her 4 years of hard work here at North Hunterdon.

North Hunterdon HS will be recognizing Eve Glasergreen on Tuesday February 3 2015 prior to the start of the girls basketball game vs. Immaculata for her winning the Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the year for 2014-2015.

Come out and support Eve on her prestigious accomplishment.

Hynoski-2015Congratulations to girls swim team for their performance at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament on Sunday 1/25, where they earned a 2nd place finish as a team.  The relay team of Claire Lee, Emily Murphy, Maddie Hynoski, and Jess Teipel came in first in both the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays, and broke the school record in the Free relay along with their 1st place finish. Maddie also placed 2nd in the 50 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 freestyle.  Congratulations on your outstanding and record breaking performance girls!

Soccer Coaches Association 2015The Soccer Coaches Association of NJ held their annual All State banquet yesterday and North had some major honors:
Michael Finer was named 2nd Team All State (Top 30 players in the state) as well as 1st Team Central Jersey
Sean Rooney and Nick Eugenio were named 2nd Team Central Jersey
Jake Ferrang was named 3rd Team Central Jersey
Matt Ferraro was named Honorable Mention Central Jersey

NorthCheerTwo of our varsity stunt groups who entered the 2015 UCA National High School Cheerleading Stunt Group Championships ranked nationally, as the results were announced  this weekend. Out of 30 stunt groups competing, Kelsey Sible’s stunt group (including Lauren Kreutel, Kayla Sible, and Rachel Frey) came in 2nd place! Olivia Reiner’s group placed 6th (Alana Healy, Kalliopi Anastasiou, and Aubrey Bartholomew.)

ClaireLeeThe junior won the 500 freestyle in the Lions’ victory over Phillipsburg on Tuesday.

Lee swam a personal-best 5:44.12 against the Stateliners even though she hasn’t competed in the event in almost two years.

She has broken the school’s 200 individual medley record this season and has produced Meet of Champion-qualifying times twice this year in the 200 medley relay with teammates Carmen Kuo, Emily Murphy and Maddie Hynoski.

Votek is averaging 15.1 points per game this year and hovered right around that number in each game — scoring 13, 15 and 12 points as North Hunterdon went 1-2, the win coming against Hunterdon Central.

    Phillipsburg and North Hunterdon led the way of all teams with 11 quarterfinalists. Hunterdon Central had 10, Voorhees 9, Delaware Valley 8and Warren Hills 7. Hackettstown has 5. Team scores were not complete at deadline, but the most up-to-date team scores have Hunterdon Central in first at 56.5, North Hunterdon second at 56, Voorhees third at 48, Phillipsburg fourth on 46 and Del Val fifth at 40.5.
