Letter Mailed Home week of March 10th Informing Junior Students (Class of 2009) and their Parents of Requirements for Parking on Campus.

March 7, 2008

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student of the Class of 2009,

North Hunterdon/Voorhees Regional School District is greatly concerned with the safety of our student drivers.  Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among young drivers with less than two years experience. Therefore, we will be implementing a mandatory program, “Alive at 25”, for all parents and students that anticipate driving on campus during the 2008-2009 school year.  The “Alive at 25” program will address the operational, psychological, and physical aspects of driving.

There will be a student program conducted during the school day the week of May 19th during health and physical education classes. This is a program designed to persuade student drivers to take responsibility for their behavior in driving situations and adopt safe driving practices.

The parent program will be offered on a variety of evenings in May.  The program will consist of a one hour presentation to assist parents in understanding and managing the journey of their teens as they progress from beginners to independent drivers.  A guidebook will be provided that offers practical information for parents to use in reducing teen crash risks.  The program will be offered at 7p.m. on May 27th, May 28th and May 29th in the North Hunterdon High School Theater.  Additional information can be found on the North Hunterdon website.  Parents must attend only one of the three nights.

In order for students to be eligible for parking permits in the 2008-2009 school year, please be advised that both student and parent must attend thee designated Alive at 25 program prior to approval for a parking permit.   Information regarding each of our programs will be posted on the district website www.nhvweb.net/NHHS or you may contact Ms. Tara Kraatz, Student Assistance Counselor at NHHS, at (908) 713-4199 Ext. 6367.

We look forward to seeing you at our programs.

Sincerely,

Michael P. Hughes
