Reserve the media center

The media center offers two instructional areas:

  • A 36-station computer lab

  • Tables for research using books or Computers on Wheels (COWS)

In addition, librarians are available to come to your classroom to provide instruction or research support.

To reserve either instructional area or to book time with a librarian, stop by the media center and speak with Leslie or Martha. For a quick look at the computer lab's availability, view our online calendar.

The calendar is for viewing only, so you can't reserve time online. But once you find the dates and times that fit your schedule, chat with a librarian to make a reservation and discuss your needs.

We'll ask you for information about your class and your project. To prepare for that discussion, download the media center reservation form.

Sending students to the Media Center

From study hall: If you are monitoring a study hall, you may send up to six students to the Media Center. Each student must present you with a blue study hall pass, signed by the teacher of an academic subject. You then add your signature to the pass. The student must present the two-signature pass and his/her student ID at the Media Center to be admitted. Please ask the student to show you his/her student ID before he/she leaves the study hall; if the student is unable to present the ID at the Media Center, he/she will be sent back to the study hall.

It is the student's responsibility to obtain the blue pass and have it signed by an academic teacher before requesting your signature. Students who arrive at the Media Center without a properly signed pass or a student ID will be sent back to study hall.

Once signed in to the Media Center for study hall, students must remain here for the rest of the period. They are expected to work quietly and not disturb other students or classes in session. Disruptive students will be sent back to study hall.

Please note that because classes are often conducted in the Media Center computer lab, study hall students cannot be guaranteed access to a computer. They should be prepared to work quietly with or without a computer.

From an academic class: Occasionally, you may find it necessary to send a student to the Media Center. In that case, fill out a pink hall pass, with the Media Center as the destination. Please indicate whether the student should return to class or should stay in the Media Center for the remainder of the period.

Find video material

Teachers often ask us how they can use our online catalog to see the list of videos that are available. Here's how:

  • Click the Power tab at the top right of the catalog screen

  • In the search fields, type the title or keywords that describe your video

  • In the Material Type drop-down menu, select Video

  • Click the Search button, and any matching results will be displayed

Another great source for classroom video is United Streaming, our subscription service that provides high-quality digital media. Contact the media center for password information.
