The assignment

  • To encourage high school students and recent college graduates to consider a career in a science, technology, or engineering, you will research, write, and design a creative job ad promoting the science- or technology-related occupation you have selected.

  • Refer to the sample job ads and use the research materials you will gather about careers and employers.

  • Your job ad should be informative, creative, and appealing to your target audience.

  • Review the rubric.

  • Review the checklist.

  • See the list of careers.

 Process

  1. Find background information about the responsibilities and requirements of your career in:

  1. From the career list, pick the government agency, educational institution, or company (listed next to your job title) for which you would like to develop a job ad.
     

  2. Use Google or another Internet search engine to find the web site for the company or agency
    you identified in step 2. Get a description of the company from the web site’s About section or
    a press release.
     

  3. Refer to the project rubric and design a job ad that will attract a student or recent graduate to consider your career. You may use Word, PowerPoint, or Publisher, but be sure to follow the format requirements on the rubric. See a sample job ad.
     

  4. Cite all of your sources (job information, company information, logos, images) on a separate Works Cited page. See citation instructions below.
     

  5. On a separate page, answer the reflection question: What will make your job ad appealing to a young person? Describe the creative approach you used to get the audience's attention.

Citing your sources

Be sure to keep a record of the sources that provided the information and images you use. The electronic databases provide citation information, which you can copy and paste onto your Works Cited page.

Example:

To cite an image, use the following format:

Image Title or Description. URL.

Example:
