Advertising is done through daily announcements (verbal, printed, and website), on the NHV website, and subject-area notices via e-mail to instructors.  All students are encouraged to register with the Gateway office concerning their areas of interest.

Grade 9

Amazing Kids in Business recognition, sponsored by the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, is given to young entrepreneurs (business owners) each December.  Apply in the fall.

Contests

President’s Volunteer Service Award for volunteer service of 100 or more hours in one 12-month period March 1 - March 1.  Apply in early spring.  Volunteer Tracking Form

Prudential Spirit of Community award for community involvement.  Apply in the fall.

Voice of Democracy (essay and speech sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a local, state, and national competition.  Apply early fall.  Site:  http://vfw.org (then Community Support, Awards and Scholarships, Voice of Democracy).

Ethnic leadership opportunities

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) national award given to one sophomore who will attend an all-expense paid weekend in the spring.  Applications are available in late September/early October through English classes or Gateway.  One male and one female will be selected from each state to attend the World Seminar in the summer.  Apply early fall.  Click for Information and for Application.

Hunterdon Tomorrow leadership program sponsored by the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce. 

Voice of Democracy (essay and speech sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a local, state, and national competition ($10,000).  Apply early fall.  Site:  http://vfw.org (then Community Support, Awards and Scholarships, Voice of Democracy).

Discover Card Scholarship.  One applicant may be selected to apply for this national scholarship based upon overcoming hardship and community involvement.  Apply late fall.

Ethnic leadership opportunities

Governor’s Schools.    All-expense paid, month long summer programs at colleges and universities for those gifted in the following areas:  Engineering & Technology, Science, Environment, Public Issues, International Studies, Arts (Dance, Visual, Performing, Vocal, Instrumental, Video/Film Production).   Approximately 75 individuals are accepted into each school.  The actual number of applications that can be submitted is dependent upon the junior class size.  Apply in early fall.  http://www.govschool.org 

Junior Miss Scholarship for academically talented young women.  Apply in late spring.

Learn About Business  two-day seminar at Ramapo College sponsored by the Foundation for Free Enterprise.

New Jersey Scholars Program, a month-long summer program held at the Lawrenceville School, is based upon an historic theme and selects approximately 30 students from our state.  Apply in the fall.  http://www.lawrenceville.org/njsp/

U.S. Senate Youth Leadership Program offers an all-expense paid, week-long visit to Washington, D.C., to experience our government at work and meet with diplomats.  Scholarship money.  Apply early fall.

 Grade 12

Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, Inc. awards four-year, merit-based scholarships and programmatic support to students attending the nation's Historically Black Public Colleges and Universities (HBPCUs).  http://www.thurgoodmarshallfund.org

Principal’s Leadership Award given to a student who has demonstrated leadership to the student body.

Prudential Spirit of Community award for community involvement.  Apply in the fall.

Robert C. Byrd Scholarship (Application Privilege by Invitation Only) for the top four or five seniors based upon class rank, GPA, SAT scores, and difficulty of curriculum.

Shadow Program may be available to seniors who would like to shadow a professional in the workplace for a day.  Please inquire.

Star Ledger Scholarship will be awarded to one student for the paper's servicing districts.  Our school applicants (one per school) will be selected based upon class rank, GPA, SAT scores, AP courses, AP test scores, Honors courses, number of credits, school involvement and honors received, athletic participation and achievement, and community involvement.

Toyota Community Scholars Program national award recognizing both academics and school and community involvement.
